Client safety in action: establishing a dedicated child safety assurance team in UnitingCare Queensland (Oral Paper Presentation)
The aim of this presentation is to provide an overview of the Client Safety Team that was recently established within Child and Family Services of UnitingCare Queensland.
The Client Safety Team works to promote a zero tolerance of harm through systemic alignment of processes, systems and people that work together to ensure the voice of the child is paramount and that UnitingCare Queensland enacts its commitment to ensuring child safety.
The presentation will provide an overview of the purpose of the team, the design of team roles and functions, organisational oversight and processes, the learning and development dimension and the governance and reporting structures that support the purpose of the team. The presentation will also explore trends relating to practice culture, recruitment and development of staff and the critical importance of strong and united leadership in the provision of client safety, with a particular focus on children and young people in out-of-home care.
In the essence of continuous improvement this presentation also identified constraints and enablers in implementing and sustaining a child safety assurance team in a large organisation.
