Liz Hefren-Webb leads the Families and Communities Stream within the Department of Social Services and oversees policy development and programs for families, children, family safety and settlement services. Liz also has responsibility for the Commonwealth Redress Scheme, problem gambling policy and financial management services. Liz joined the department in July 2018. Prior to this Liz was a First Assistant Secretary at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, working in the Indigenous Affairs Group, responsible for educational, community safety, health and wellbeing programmes and policy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Liz has also worked in the former Department of
Families, Housing and Indigenous Affairs, and started her career as a graduate in the former Department of Social Security in 1996. Liz has an Arts degree from the University of Sydney, with Honours in Government.
