As the D/CEO ACWA, Wendy Foote managed the ACWA project, ‘Kinship care- Making it a National Issue’ project in 2018. This philanthropically funded project developed a national overview of the kinship care policy settings, consulting with state, territory and federal governments, as well as NGO stakeholders, service providers and kinship carers. A policy position was developed to inform advocacy at all levels of government. Sponsored by ACWA, guided by a CAFWAA reference group, consulting with Aboriginal and kinship care peaks, the project identified existing policy development, service provision and research in kinship care in a number of domains. Wendy brings her experience of working collaboratively at a peak body to influence policy in the child welfare, as well as her experience in research and child welfare provision to the discussion. Wendy is currently an Associate Professor, teaching and researching in social work and related areas at the Newcastle University.
